Privacy Policy - Liberated Reader
Last updated: March 2026
Overview
Liberated Reader is a personal reading tool. We take privacy seriously and collect as little data as possible. This policy explains what information is collected and how it is used. We do not require an account, we do not sell data, and we do not serve advertisements.
What we collect
Analytics (Google Analytics): We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how the site is used — such as which pages are visited and how long users spend reading. This data is aggregated and anonymised. Google Analytics may set cookies on your device. You can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Local storage (your browser only): Liberated Reader stores your recently read articles and scroll positions in your browser's local storage. This data never leaves your device and is not sent to our servers. You can clear it at any time using the Clear button on the home page, or by clearing your browser's local storage through your browser's developer tools or privacy settings.
Article URLs: When you paste an article URL, it is sent to our server to fetch and extract the article content. URLs are not stored or logged after the request is complete.
What we do not collect
- We do not require you to create an account
- We do not collect your name, email address, or any personal details
- We do not sell data to third parties
- We do not serve advertisements
- We do not store the content of articles you read
Third-party services
When fetching articles, our server may forward article URLs to a range of third-party services as part of the unlock pipeline. Only the article path (no query strings or tokens) is forwarded. These services include ScraperAPI (residential proxy), archive.ph, archive.today, the Wayback Machine (archive.org), and various CORS proxy services. Each service has its own privacy policy. Not every service is contacted for every request — the pipeline stops as soon as one method succeeds.
Google Fonts is used to load typography. Google may collect usage data per their privacy policy.
Your choices
You are in control of the data stored in your browser. Reading history and scroll positions can be cleared at any time from the home page using the Clear button, or by clearing your browser's local storage and session storage through your browser's developer tools or privacy settings.
You can opt out of Google Analytics measurement at any time using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. Analytics data is aggregated and does not identify individual users. No article content or URLs are included in analytics events.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated from time to time. The Last updated date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. We will not materially change how we handle your data without updating this policy first.
